Why Engineering?

Engineering is more than a discipline or a career. It's a way of thinking. An approach to solving problems and inventing new and better ways of doing things. Engineers draw upon science and mathematics, communication skills, interpersonal skills - and their own ingenuity - to make the world a better place.

Think of the world around you. Engineers had a hand in developing or improving just about everything you interact with.from the computer screen you're reading to the vehicle you last rode in to the soda can you last drank from. Engineers create cutting edge applications and procedures - like robotic surgery and retina scanning security systems - as well as elegant designs that help those in dire need-from rebuilding the levees in New Orleans to inventing ways to purify contaminated drinking water and clean soil.

The goal of Stevens' Engineering Our Future NJ program is to expose all students to engineering from the elementary grades through high school - not only those who choose elective courses and extracurricular activities. In so doing, students will apply science and mathematics, learn to frame a problem and think creatively about alternative solutions, and develop the habits of mind and interpersonal skills necessary to become creative problem-solvers.
