Englewood School, Homewood, Alabama
The Excellent Group
Although the schools are found on different sides of the world, we found a few similarities. We both found bugs in our squares. Some of them are the ants, worms, spiders and other flying bugs. There are many trees along with shrubs and weeds.
We live in Homewood, Alabama, close to Birmingham. There are eleven kids in our class. Our school is built on flat land and has six grades, Kindergarten through Fifth. We have apple trees and two baseball fields. In our square, we found a variety of insects and plant life.
In Croatia there are pumpkins, sunflowers, bean vines, tomato vines, and pansy flowers. These plants are different from what was in our square. The insects they found were grasshoppers and tram beetles. There are fifteen kids in the Croatian class. Their school was built beside a mountain. The school is right beside a church. They have a tennis court and soccer field on the school grounds.
Our squares are very different because Croatia is across the world from the United States. Another reason they are different is because Croatia's school is on the side of a mountain, unlike Edgewood's flat land. A reason why there are differences is because the latitude of Birmingham is thirty-three degrees and the latitude of Zagreb is forty-six.
Dudelicious Group
There are several differences between the squares of The International School of Florence, Italy, and Edgewood Elementary School. Italy has olive trees and pine trees. They also have a lot of different things like bamboo and big mushrooms. We on the other hand have oak trees, a magnolia tree, and small mushrooms. Some different animals they have that we don’t are lizards and ladybugs. We have some animals that they don’t have like a slug and a squirrel. They have no mud and no trash. They have two soccer fields. We have one soccer field. The International School of Florence, Italy has a vineyard. We don’t. They have big rocks.
Some similarities between their school and our school are that we both had moss and mushrooms. We also both have dirt, snails, spiders, squirrels. We both have small rocks.
We think some reasons that we have all these differences are because we live in different climates and because they live in a different part of the world. They live by a mountain so that would explain the big rocks. Florence Italy has a dry climate and since olive trees grow in very dry climates that would make sense. Some reasons for the similarities may be because they don’t live in a freezing cold climate or a very hot climate.
