The fourth Graders at Wallace School in Hoboken, New Jersey tested water samples from two ponds. One was from Coaldale, Pennsylvania and the other sample was from Montvale, New Jersey. We used pond water from Pennsylvania because our science lab teacher, Ms. Mitsakos has a house there and brought it into class. The New Jersey water came from one of our classmates.
Our hypothesis was that the organisms would be different from each water sample but they weren’t. However, the Pennsylvania water had more living organisms than the New Jersey sample. We are going to investigate why this is true.
Here is a report written by one of the fourth graders, Angelica R..
“We are a fourth grade class in Hoboken New Jersey in the USA. We did the Bucket Buddies investigation. My hypothesis was it is going to be different. The organisms that we found were; scuds, midge larva, snails, damsel fly nymph, water fleas, may fly nymphs, dragon fly nymphs, some algae and bristle worms. The pond water we found all this in was from Pennsylvania.”
