A mail list/listserv is an automated mailing list for people who share a common interest in a designated subject. Subjects include education, computers in education, Internet training, etc. There are thousands of listserv topics.

The best way to learn about listservs is to pick one that interests you and subscribe. You can unsubscribe at any point. Some listservs are very popular and have thousands of participants. Your email inbox can easily become flooded with hundreds of messages each week. Subscribe to one listserv at a time to see how often you use it, before you subscribe to many. Subscribing is free.

This listserv is sponsored by CIESE, The Center for Innovation in Engineering & Science Education at Stevens Institute of Technology. We develop K-12 Internet-based curriculum materials and provide Internet training for teachers. This listserv will not only update you on CIESE's activities but will serve as a forum for K-12 teachers to share ideas for teaching with the Internet.

How to Subscribe to the CIESE listserv

1. Open your email program to compose a message.
2. Deactivate your automatic signature file if you have one (if you didn't set one up initially, then you don't have one). 
3. Send the message as "plain text" only
4. Address the message to: listserv@listserv.ciese.org
5. Leave the subject line empty.  
6. On the first line of the message body, write the words: subscribe ciese
7. Send the message.
8. In a few minutes you will receive a confirmation message, which will give you instructions on how to quickly confirm your email address.
9. Once you have successfully confirmed your email address, you will receive a welcome message which includes directions on how to unsubscribe.
10. Keep this message for future reference. 

To Unsubscribe from the CIESE Listserv

1. Address an email message to: listserv@listserv.ciese.org
2. Deactivate your automatic signature file if you have one.
3. Leave the subject line empty.
4. On the first line of the message body write only the words: unsubscribe ciese
   Nothing else may be written in the message body.
5. Send your message.
6. You will receive confirmation that you are unsubscribed.

How to Post a Message to the CIESE listserv

1. Post messages to the CIESE listserv by sending an email addressed to: ciese@listserv.ciese.org

New Feature - List Archives

1. All messages posted to the list will be archived. This way, you can go back and review old messages if you can’t get to your email.
2. The archives are stored at http://listserv.ciese.org/archives/ciese.html

Remember that everyone who subscribes to this listserv will automatically receive your message. 

How to Change Your Email Address

1. The best and fastest way to change your email address (on any listserv) is to subscribe to the listserv using your new email address.
2. If your old email address is still active, you can also unsubscribe from the list using that email.
3. Any inactive emails get bounced back and we remove the address from the listserv.
4. Subscribing and unsubscribing is done automatically by computer and only takes a few minutes.

Check the instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing so that you send your email message to the correct address. It is different from the email address used to post messages.

Please do not post a message to the listserv requesting that your email address be changed . There are many hundreds of people who subscribe to the CIESE listserv and they will all receive your message.
